Well, I just finished a post about my army painting progress and what I wanted my blog to be about, but blogger said I could not post it because I had an exclamation point and a question mark next to each other in the post title.
When I fixed that, it just started to bug out and my video got wonky. So I am redoing the whole dang thing, but the muse has left me so I just have the video:
Basically it just said, "I like doing battle reports and I will stop procrastinating the upload of my tournament etiquette videos. Also I need to practice painting more but it will be a long road so I am just going to go ahead and paint my army to the best of my ability and try not to get too frustrated"

To get my army painted I've decided that I won't try to make it all themathic or painted it exactly the same nor base it according to some rules. I will do that with another army in the future.
ReplyDeleteThis way I feel less pressure when I paint and I can try out slightly different things. Check out my blog for pictures :)
It also gives my a chance to improve as I am not trying to reproduce the same results.
Looking forward to see your future paint endevours:)
Funny thing, I got to read your original post since it got sent out in the RSS stream (or whatnot) :)
ReplyDeleteLooking at the video I think that the biggest thing you could do would be to do something more to the bases. Even something simple would remove that "unfinished" look a plain base gives a model. Also some transfers, or freehand, can do wonders to a model. Other than that the Tau is a bit odd since they have such a clean look to them. A good wash for the recesses should do wonders though. And if you want to walk the extra mile, some camo patterns on the tank.
But first and foremost some good bases. Maybe something to tie in with your particular choice of Sept:)
I totally agree with Flekkzo, nothing brings an army together like finished bases. The models you have done look very good, and as a whole they will look great on the table.
ReplyDeleteMotivation to paint is sometimes hard to find (I usually try and pick some up at the game stores, but normally they are out of stock) so when you do get the itch its best to jump all over it!
Yea, I suffer from lowered expectations as well. ;) I just figured out a paint scheme that I could do tabletop quality fairly quickly and then on the next wave of motivation, I can pick out the details to bring them to a HTS (high tabletop standard) <-- I just made that up. Go me!
ReplyDeleteLooks great so far. I third on the bases. One technique I heard on the DLT podcast from Painter Sarah is to pick a contrasting color (color wheel stuff) for the base because it will make the model pop from the table. My plan for my Blood Angels is a blue moonscape. According to Sarah, leaving the black ring around the base can also help make it pop from the table.
I never got why GW insists on brown borders on their basis. It looks awful to me. Having a black border separates the model from whatever it is standing on an generally looks good.
ReplyDeleteAlso basing is a general scavage hunt for bark, cork, gravel, stones, and all sorts of debrie you find laying around. It's fun!
basing= white pepper! I am just putting elmers glue on the base then dipping it in white pepper for some nice sand effects. When I paint up my broadsides they are going to be doing the "one leg up on a small rock" pose, so I will have to find some little sandy-colored rocks. Thanks for the feed back! Painting is definitely the most frustrating thing for me with this hobby.

I have found that baking soda makes a great alternative to snow flock. I apply elmers glue to the base, then sprinkle on the baking soda. I tend to be very generous with it, as it makes it look more like piles of snow.
ReplyDeletep.s Krox, can you update your blog list with the new url to my blog? Tactica 40k has become peaksofasaheim.blogspot.com
@JTaylor
ReplyDeleteSure thing!
@JTaylor, umm, blooger is being weird, I entered the peaksofasaheim thingy and tatica 40K still pops up?
ReplyDelete@Kroxitau I bet something is stuck in a cache somewhere. Close all browser windows and try again and reload your blogger feed.
ReplyDelete@Flekkzo
ReplyDeleteThanks dude you were right, that was weird and annoying while it lasted.
