Irusk Vs Hexeris at 35 pts

Here we go the first battle report. I have been busy doing life stuff but now I have some more time to post battle reports. I have been practicing with 4 main casters : Butcher, Strakhov, Karchev and Irusk. I have been having a lot of fun learning how to play as well as putting together and painting metal dudes. I have a fully painted army for Strakhov which I will probably post later tonight along with my ideas and inquiries for a game board design.

I have not done any scenario play and my friends and I have just focused on caster kill. Eventually I will get there.

This list is fairly straight-forward:
P Irusk
Wishnailer
Gorman
Orin
WGDS (winterguard death star)
Nyss Hunters+ Kapitan Valachev
Black Ivan

I like the list because I get a def 14 jack with dodge, and large units of ranged troops that can have a silly amount of defensive buffs. Not too sure on Gorman and Orin yet, I am probably just not good enough to use them. I may just take them out, and have the great bears instead, who knows.

Like with my last slew of battle reports for warhammer, there will probably be A LOT of games versus (S)Khorne. Which is what a Skorne army is, when it is proxied with Khorne models. Mostly because the Retribution player in the group does not have a whole lot of time to play warmachine. Hopefully I will get some games in at Tower games that people will let me record.

Basically Def 14 and Dodge saved my bacon on Black Ivan, and also my opponent's inability to roll an 8 on 3 dice multiple times. I was way too aggressive with the nyss girls but they still managed to cause a lot of harm. Valachev is great with them because they can benefit from iron flesh as well as Irusk's crazy good defensive feat.

Winterguard deathstar is silly.

Hanging out at 35 points

I am working on finally assembling all of the models for my 35pt Khador force. I am just waiting on the Drakhun and Beast 09 to be delivered then I will prime and start painting. For some reason I am waiting until I have all my models assembled to paint them.

There is a koldun lord and P Eryiss in there as well, they are from my Strakhov at 15 points list. The army is pretty quick and brutal. I have some options to slow down enemies (rift and the gun carriage heavy cannons.) I can deal with knockdown armies (superiority, drakhun, great bears) and nothing really is going to have a problem getting the charge due to Strakhov's feat. The main thing is target priority, blow up all the stuff in the alpha strike that could hit on a counter charge.

I will be posting more pictures as I start priming and painting. Still figuring out the best way to film battle reports, the turns are a lot more complicated in WM/H.

Strakhov list

I have actually been having a lot of luck with a list that is close the original one I posted.

Strakhov

Beast 09
Gun Carriage
Man O War Drakhun
Fenris
War Dog
Yuri the Axe
Great Bears
Manhunter

I have heard some comments from dudes at the FLGS that I should have at least one unit of infantry or some support dudes. I understand gorman or eiryss can do things that hamper my opponent and they are really nice. However I just want to have everything move the same speed (6") and include a bunch of things my opponent knows can kill huge chunks of stuff. That changes the psychology of the game a little bit. All I need is for a small piece of my army to get to his and I can do a lot of gutting. So far I have been using Strakhov's feat to remove the opposing army rather than specifically go for a caster kill (although a majority of the time the feat has gone off something has ended up with melee range to the caster.)

Generally I have the carriage screen strakhov, and use the drakhun and wardog to protect strakhov on his feat turn. If I think I have a shot at the caster I put focus on beast 09, if I don't think I can get the caster with him I cast overrun on Beast 09 so that I can move strakhov back after 09 kills something. Superiority is always up and generally I put stealth on something, but tend to drop stealth on the feat turn so I have more focus, everyone is usually in melee anyways.

So far the games I have lost have been mistakes that I have made with the gun carriage (that thing blocks a huge a lane) BUT I still like the gun carriage because people either try to ignore it or put forth a lot of effort to get rid of it. I just like it because its mobile terrain that makes rough terrain. I guess you could say I see the gun carriage as my support model.

P.S. I gotta remember how to do the thing where a word is also a link, that way I can link to all the models through their name so if you need a quick reference you have the info just a click away.

Khador it is

For the time being my blog is going to be pretty much all warmachine stuff. 40K has kind of gotten stale for me as of late. I have been busy with a kitchen remodel as well as 2 jiujitsu tournaments but I really got the Warmachine bug, mostly started by Chris Kluwe. Expect more to come as I figure this game out. Obviously I am gonna play Khador because it offers the biggest change of pace from the Tau. Specifically I am looking at Strakhov and Karchev for now with sharp eyes also on ESorscha and EButcher when I learn the first 2. More to come!
